Pipin Website Changes.

Post by Admin on Sat Jan 20, 2018 12:56 pm

Pipin web site is currently changing. The forum will remain unchanged.

Pipin  has played a very important part in IOD pension support since the early days when IOD ex officers of compulsory and state retirement age challenged review policies following adoption of policies based on HOC46/2004.

Although we have been very successful, the problem of police forces attempting to exploit the review process remains. The problem has become more complex in many ways and our movement has evolved to meet the new challenges and the formation of IODPA has allowed us to largely pass the baton to the team at IODPA.  It was intended to assimilate PIPIN into IODPA but we have seen, not only that interest in Pipin remains strong, but that interest has  substantially increased.  Pipin therefore has a job to do and will continue to do it.  Pipin is a good 'recruiting sergeant' for IODPA who wish Pipin to continue independently.

The Pipin web site has always been managed very economically but over the years, despite software upgrades, the platform has been technically limited and is now outdated.  In order to have greater compatibility with the range of devices now in use, and also to provide greater flexibility in site maintenance, Pipin is transferring to a new hosting platform which should bring us technically up to date.

Pipin will continue to feature news and provide IOD information etc.  IOD pensioners have showed their mettle in defence of their pensions and the story needs to be told.  Over the years, Pipin has recorded events and reorganisation will highlight that history.

Events seem to be moving fast again and it is intended to keep Pipin going for as long as it is needed.  It has been decided to retain the familiar simple look of the website. We hope the transition will take place over the next few days and the files will remain on the old server for a short while after the transition (link below).

A like and a thanks button would be a good addition to the site.

Pipin web site has now been relocated and remains under development, we will make additions and adjust the setup as we progress.  The up to date platform should mean the site can be displayed more conveniently om pads and phones as well as PC's. It is certainly a lot easier to maintain than the old system.

We are better equipped as more forces start reviews. We are all going to be busy and I think this is something we will be tackling for a long time  to come.

Excellent news that you are keeping up the good work. You have been a rock in a stormy sea fo a long time now and, despite the great job being done by IODPA, you are as relevant now as ever.

Thanks for your kind words.

Even though we have IODPA, Pipin has its own role to play in support of IODPA and IOD's  with emphasis on telling the story of our considerable  achievements.  Many of us older IOD's have been fighting this for over ten years and we now have a lot more IOD's becoming involved as forces start reviewing.  Until that letter drops through the letterbox, there are lots of IOD's who aren't really aware of how this has been playing out for such a long period.

I have been speculating how things will develop. Some forces have been cautious in approaching IOD reviews but we now have a few forces 'testing the water'.  The latest force to start is Essex and I am told they are using the same tired old methods of questionnaires, consent for medical records etc coupling with sanctions of Reg 33 for non compliance.  Another recent development was the commencement of reviews in Staffordshire which seemed to adopt which, to me, are aimed at creating conflict with IOD's.  I wonder if they will continue in this piecemeal fashion of just forces here and there reviewing or whether there will be a plan to bring things to a head with numerous forces suddenly commencing reviews.  There are probably lots of PPA's who would like to review but know that they face some very serious opposition.  Reviews are always daunting but there are lots of IOD's who, because this has gone on so long, will are ready to get stuck in and do what we have to do - its in our nature as ex police officers.  On the other hand, there people within police forces who don't agree with the way they are treating IOD's and, one day, these people might just do waht they have to do to make things right.

Whatever happens, it will drag on for a very long time to come and Pipin will be here as long as I am.

Really good to hear this. The extent of work you have put into this site is a credit to you. The professionalism is astounding. You have done so much to assist all us IOD's, and it's all hear to see. I have followed the site and blogs from day one. OSWALD
