Interesting Developments

Post by Beachcomber on Thu Jun 15, 2017 8:34 pm

The news that Avon and Somerset have joined some other forces and abandoned their 'automatic' review programme is very good news.

Many of us will be aware that IOD's in the Staffordshire force are facing a mass review programme. They will be very interested in how their new Chief Constable, who is also their PPA, will tackle this situation. Developments in A&S are especially relevant as  the new CC, Gareth Morgan, has been DCC in A&S and will therefore be well acquainted with the iOD issues at hand. Hopefully, wisdom and common sense will prevail and we all wait to see how this plays out in Staffordshire.

Of course, Staffordshire are not the only force to be conducting or intending to conduct reviews and we do not yet know if the same reasons that have caused  A&S to abandon reviews will result in similar actions elsewhere.

We have learned, over the last decade or so. that forces and their minions do not necessarily speak the truth in relation to IOD pensions and we must always expect that they will, at some point, decide to review again. IODPA are fully aware of that possibility and other possible scenarios. There would appear to be no reason why appeals and Judicial Reviews in the pipeline should not continue to proceed, after all, there are outstanding issues to be clarified and resolved.
