Derbyshire Update

Post by Beachcomber on Tue Apr 04, 2017 9:42 am

As reported in the 'News' section of the Pipin web site, Derbyshire Narpo have indicated that the force intend to start reviewing it's IOD's. The new strategy has apparently not been decided yet but it would seem to be imminent.

Narpo has previously updated it's members in the newsletter with the information that the force was considering two options:

1. That only those below the age of 70 would be reviewed.

2. Just review those awarded injury on duty ten years ago, bearing in mind those reviewed only three years ago.

This information is rather vague but it is probably all that the force have provided to Narpo. We also understand that a couple of the HR people involved with IOD reviews have left and, as we already knew, the SMP Dr Ralph Sampson, recently passed away.

So, we will have to wait and see what they come up with. Derbyshire have been considering various plans and policies over the last decade and it would be naive to expect the force will get it right. Remember that it was a case involving a Derbyshire IOD pensioner that put the final nail in the coffin of HOC46/2004.

Advice and legal assistance is available from our very experienced team.

Please update us if you have more information.

When it contacts ex officers regarding it's review strategy, this force is likely to imply consultation with Narpo and/or PFEW. Consultation or even agreement of either organisation to the policy of the force is not binding on the IOD pensioner and there is no obligation on the pensioner to accept that the force's policy is legitimate.
